Is MMA fighting ethical ?

The definition of “ethical” could be pertaining to the principles of morality. In other words, it is broadly related to the standards and rules of a profession. Today we shall discuss whether MMA fighting is ethical or not.

Human activities subject to Ethical Standard:

No civilized society can run their business of everyday life without some sort of Ethical Rules. Otherwise the whole society would have been disorganized.  Ethics means Moral Stand. For example a nurse cannot make relationships with a patient. Because the relationship most possibly turns into physical demand which a hospital cannot afford to manage everybody’s carnal desire.  So Ethical Rules does not necessarily only mean Principles, but also it means Rules to run an organization smoothly. But these ethics are subject to change. If the patient and the nurse become obsessed with each other, their relationship could be considered. Ethics is a Standard devised by and for the welfare of humans  that could change from time to time according to requirements. So there are fixed ethics and new ethics. And measure is taken upon its requirement.

Killing Combatants legal Why not MMA Fighting Ethical:

In war there are ethics too. Killing of soldiers in the battlefield is legal and heroic. Still, there are Geneva Conventions. The Geneva Conventions are a bunch of treaties on the treatment of civilians, prisoners of war (POWS) and soldiers who are outside the fight, or incapable of fighting. Despite the treaties, non-combatant people are killed, suffer from hunger and other fundamental necessities. Food supply chains are stopped by the enemy forces. Energy sources are disrupted as a weapon to use against innocent people as a war strategy. The Geneva Conventions treaty also guarantees human treatment for Prisoners of War. Alas, they are treated most inhumanely by the hands of other soldiers in the name of what they say, “In love and war everything is fair”.

War and MMA fighting ethics:

In war, killing soldiers in the battlefield is heroic to bring peace. But killing and making life unbearable for non-combatant people are cowardice and absolutely unethical. This is the standard that soldiers fight against other soldiers following the chain of command. In most cases, people apply for the army.  They are not forced to fight to kill soldiers on the battlefield. That means they willingly serve the country even at the cost of their own lives. They are trained to kill and to be killed. In some big countries, there are conscription systems. It is their duty to die for the interest of their country and they are honored as heroes. So, these are ethical to kill the enemy forces, because the intention is good to establish fairness and justice and peace. In MMA, as a combat sport fighters display their strength and overpower the opponent to win the match within fighting rules. If one of them breaks rules his points might be deducted or even he could be disqualified by the competent judges sitting next to the octagon. If indiscriminate soldiers killing in the battlefield is legal, why a combat sport MMA should not be ethical wherein the opponent in distress situations could tap to stop the fight any time to get rid of problems. Besides, nobody is forcing anybody to hop in an Octagon and get hurt.

MMA is an ever growing popular sport. Interested people practice hard over the years to become a professional fighter to earn a fortune and fame as well. Accidental death occurs once in a while though. Tragic death also happens in other games too, even in Cricket. Truth is the death rate could be brought to zero level, if the forbidden parts of the body are not attacked. Another word, “No pain No gain”. Even if the MMA fight is apparently inhuman, the ethics of the sport is retainable.

MMA fighters compared with Combatants:

MMA fighters have been compared with fighting soldiers on the battlefield. The defeated soldiers are not killed when they surrender. Likewise, an MMA fighter can stop the fight any time by tapping. Many people enjoy watching blood in fights. This is the other side of life on the earth. The visible ugly side of life to depict the inner disturbing image. The octagon is a miniature battlefield to represent the woes of human life because of war  that happens in the vast world when things go beyond civilized discourse.

MMA Fighting right or Wrong:

MMA fighters entertain people all over the world. Spectators around the globe enjoy watching the game with enthusiasm and spirit. Fans do not criticize the sport to find out the fault with it. However, MMA fighting is ethical,  despite it being a violent activity at times, as long as the fighters maintain the rules the UFC authority fixes. But when intentional wrongdoing happens and rules are broken the fighting situation would be degraded to Unethical. Because wilful wrongdoing corrupts the mind.

Ethics is a high level word mostly concerned with principles, righteousness, morality, virtue, honesty, integrity and so on. As a matter of fact, professional MMA fighters follow their intrinsic ethics as they know the fighting career is their source of income and find interest in living. In the heat of the moment sometimes they might become furious. That’s why the referee is there to separate them to stop their bad behavior which is unethical.

Conclusion:

MMA fighting is ethical as long as the match is fought by the mandatory rules set by the authorities. Majority people all over the world recognize MMA as a sport and they enjoy watching it. MMA fighters train hard for a long time to become a professional fighter. MMA fights are a piece of war. A war should follow Geneva conventions and an MMA Fighting should follow the rules so that both the fight could be ethical.
