A martial art fighter suffering from some sort of ocular problem can not afford to fight well in the ring. Today, in this post, we will discuss whether we can wear contact lenses while fighting or not!

About wearing contact lenses while fighting:

As a prima facie, most amateur and professional boxing organizations, with not much consideration have banned contact lens wearing while fighting in the ring. They think wearing contact lenses during fights could cause irreparable damage to the eyes. On the other hand, many associations that oversee serious kinds of martial arts like MMA and UFC allow wearing contact lenses that are scientifically proven safe while fighting in the ring. Also, experts observe that Martial Sports of all types essentially require both physical endurance and intense eyes to focus on the fast movement of the opponent. Seeing something with difficulties, such because of blurred vision due to the absence of lenses certainly affects the fighter’s competency.

In this scientific age, scientists do not take a rest until they find the solutions they are looking for mankind. They invented three different types of contact lenses that are best suited for martial arts training, sparring, and competitive fighting in the ring.

Three clinical proven Contact Lenses so far:

Soft Contact Lenses:

Fine materials extracted from soft hydrogel or silicone hydrogel are used to make this sophisticated. These lenses are comfortable, easy to wear, take little time to be adjusted to the eyes, and have no irritation at all. Soft contact lenses are made according to the standard and exact size of your eyes. The materials used to make contact lenses are soft. So it is easy to mold the design to the shape of the eyes. The chances of dislodging the lenses from the eyes of the fighter are slim.  Even if the contact lenses fall from your eyes, there is little to worry about, because these lenses are not so expensive that a fighter cannot afford them.

Disposable Contact Lenses:

Daily disposable contact lenses are the best option, especially for martial art fighters who have to use them for correct vision. The lenses that are discarded after every use every day, offer the user of the lenses hygienic conditions of the eyes. The eyes are the place where debris accumulated, forming bacteria. That’s why eye specialists advise rinsing the eyes often with clean water. Rinsing eyes with keeping the contact lenses worn in is not possible.  So disposable contact lenses after each use, protect the eyes of the concerned fighter from infection and other ophthalmic diseases. In the case of Disposable contact lenses, there is an obvious fact of economy. If you wear contact lenses only during matches or training sessions, your pack of daily usable lenses will last you longer.

Orthokeratology Contact Lenses:

Orthokeratology lenses are a type of Rigid Gas Permeable(RGP) contact lens that is designed to reshape your faulty cornea to improve your vision while you are asleep. These Contact Lenses are worn at night and removed in the morning. Your eyesight will be improving day by day and in day time you will be able to fight without using contact lenses. The vision correction from Ortho-K lenses should be only a temporary treatment. Your cornea will return to its original shape if you do not wear these lenses regularly each night, following the prescription if any.

However, Orthokeratology is the most effective and helpful for martial art fighters. Because the system prepares the fighter on the previous night. As we know this contact is only to be worn at night and removed in the morning.

With vision problems, the fighter is supposed to feel unwell and even he might lose interest in fighting, cursing his poor eyesight. The merits and disadvantages of using contact lenses instead of glass are undeniable facts. External lenses on the bridge of the nose cannot stay on a fighter. Yet again, a boxer simply cannot wear spectacles with lenses to see something. He needs contact lenses not to be hurt, anyway.

Final Words:

The answer to the question is yes. You are entitled to wear contact lenses that your eye doctor recommends for your correct vision. So there are a variety of contact lenses, as we mentioned above, that are made of fine scientific stuff aiming for the sake of your correct vision, and with that passion, you can fight all sports–Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and also MMA, and Chinese all other famous martial arts.
