In MMA fighting, could women and men compete equally, assuming weight class limitations apply?

SKILL is the most important strength in MMA fighting to overpower an opponent. The weight also matters a lot, but it comes next. The question is whether an MMA man and an MMA woman of the same weight class can fight equally. Today’s discussion is to justify their fights, if ever held.

Man vs Woman in MMA

Before differentiating the eligibility of women and men in MMA fighting we must understand that MMA is an extreme kind of martial art. MMA training takes a pretty long time. It takes at least four years to learn MMA. Of course, that doesn’t mean one can learn everything within this period or become a professional fighter after four years training. This is just the beginning. There are more reasons why MMA is so difficult. It is quite challenging because it combines just about every discipline of martial arts into one form of fighting. It requires an arduous devotion to practice and exercise to become a professional fighter. Naturally, it is more difficult for women to complete the course to the end and fight like men. An MMA fight between a man and a woman of the same weight is just not fair to the woman fighter. Men can create more muscle mass and carry more muscle than women. Muscles contain strength and can resist pain. Making muscle mass for women is not easy for them. Having said that, a highly skilled woman fighter can compete with a male fighter in the same weight category in MMA and she might win the fight. A clean shot could even bring a female fighter to victory. But it would be a case of “once in a while”.

Barely Any Fight Men Vs Women

There are few female MMA fighters. Of them, a few personalities such as Amanda Nunes, Christiane “Cyborg”Santos, Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and others inspired women to learn MMA. Most of the sports pundits believe that women can hardly beat men at MMA fights. But in the case of Amanda Nunes, who bagged most victories in the Ultimate Fighting Championship might beat a male MMA fighter because she is skilled. Then again, Ronda Rousey, even in her prime, would have had a slim chance to defeat McGregor. It is a tough standard to equalize the measure of physical strength of men and women. Although MMA is primarily a male-dominated sport, it does have female athletes. Also, there is an overpowering sense of defeating male fighters.

Conclusion:

It cannot be denied that weight division and gender division exist in athletic sports. It is just not fair to arrange a fight between a man and a woman. Physicality advantage for men is naturally given. Therefore, men and women cannot equally compete in MMA fighting, even if one or two matches a woman won against a man.
