Daniel Ryan Cormier was born on March 20, 1979, Lafayette, Louisiana, USA. He is an American former professional Mixed Martial Artist. Cormier was a former Light heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion and an Olympic Freestyle Wrestler. Today we shall discuss the physical shape of Daniel Cormier.

Daniel Cormier

Cormier retired from MMA in 2020 and currently works as a UFC commentator. During his competition life his fighting record was(22-3-0) 22-wins, 3-losses, and 1-no contest. Naturally, he belongs to one of the elite MMA fighters

Somehow Cormier is considered to be  fat and flabby. It looks like when he was about to compete in the Heavyweight group he let his body gain weight. His extra pound of fat above the strong muscle mass didn’t bother him at all to be a capable fighter in the octagon. He could comfortably carry his extra weight, compared to the other opponents. His wrestling technique, striking, heavy boxing blow and the ability to push a high pace speed against his opponents make him a very dangerous fighter. His winning accomplishments in the combat sport of MMA prove this truth.

Instead of calling him fat and flabby, he would better be called  stocky and chubby. His strongly built muscles beneath the layer of fat is the main source of energy. His real muscle mass comes up and becomes clearly visible after the boot camp when he cuts weight to compete at Light Heavyweight fights.

Fat and Flabby Cormier

Most combat sports pundits decline to call Daniel Cormier ‘fat and flabby’. They  prefer calling him stocky. They have the strong logic behind it that Daniel Cormier could not have made a major splash since joining the world of mixed martial arts, if he did not have the real body strength that an MMA fighter needs. Since debuting with Strikeforce, fans have watched him evolve into a complete fighter who can defeat some of the best MMA fighters in the world until he retired.

Daniel Cormier wins the vacant light heavyweight title, defeating Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 held on May 23, 2015. He defended the prestigious title against Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Johnson and Volkan Oezdemir.

Daniel Cormier also completed the fighting move up from Light Heavyweight to Heavyweight, becoming simultaneous champion of both divisions by beating Stipe Miocic who weighed 109 kg at that time at UFC 226. He successfully defended his title at UFC 230 against Derrick Lewis who weighed 120 kg. Daniel fought with equally elite fighters weighing 109 kg and 120 kg respectively. He won over a fighter who weighed less than him and he also won over a fighter of his class who weighed over six kg than him. So, ‘fat and flabby’ might sound like derogatory words for him.

Cormier's Towel Trick

Daniel Cormier admits he did use ‘towel trick’ to magically lose more than a pound in a minute just before the famous UFC fight began. To become eligible to defend the Light Heavyweight championship he cheated as he weighed in completely naked. With the help of two men who held two towels while he was leaning against it slightly, allowing to reduce the weight off the towel by more than a pound. The former champion was to rematch Anthony Johnson at UFC 210 to defend his light heavyweight championship. At that time he was weighing more than 205lb, the borderline of the weight for light heavyweight bout. So, he did the towel trick to lose a pound. This is the downside Cormier had to do because of his fatty body.

Conclusion

Athletes’ looks are mostly bruised in the face with cauliflower ears. They need aesthetic impressiveness to have huge muscle mass, ripping body shape that developed out of painful gym and aerobic exercise. Most importantly, they are required to have a proportionate weight according to height. Some athletes are fat and flabby. Beneath the fat their real muscle mass remains intact which is a real source of energy  as  Daniel Cormier has.
